Oranjestad, Aruba, February 8, 2025 – The Aruba Aquatics Federation successfully hosted the first Artistic Swimming competition of the year on Saturday, February 8, at Piscina Olimpico Roly Bisslik in Savaneta. This exciting event was organized in honor of Dia di Betico, celebrating both athletic excellence and the island’s cultural heritage.
The competition showcased the incredible talent of our 25 athletes, who competed in various age categories: Beginners, 10 & Under, 12 & Under, Youth, Junior, and Senior. Participants demonstrated their technical skills and artistic performances in figures, solos, duets, and team routines, impressing the audience with their precision, synchronization, creativity and strength.
A total of 17 routines were performed, with athletes evaluated by a panel of judges based on their technical skills, flexibility, routine difficulty, choreography, facial expressions, and synchronization. Many of these routines are part of the preparation for the PanAm Aquatics Championship in Medellín, Colombia, this May, where Aruba’s artistic swimming team will proudly compete on the international stage.
Special Appearance by Elite Athlete Kyra Hoevertsz
The competition also featured a special performance by Kyra Hoevertsz, Aruba’s elite artistic swimmer, who tested the waters with her new solo routine. Kyra will compete with this routine at the upcoming World Cup Games in Paris this March, representing Aruba on one of the sport’s biggest stages. Her presence at the event served as an inspiration to younger athletes and the local artistic swimming community.
